A Brief Dictionary of Stitches

Cost: €150 including embroidery box with all materials, 3 hour workshop taught by Rebecca, lifetime access to pre-recorded online course & light refreshments.
Content: If you’re curious about embroidery then this beginners course will be ideal for you! It’s a lovely occasion to relax and enjoy moments of creativity, inspiration and craft. What better way to spend a Sunday morning in Paris! This is Rebecca’s favourite embroidery course to teach and will begin with a presentation about the fascinating history of embroidery samplers and how they were used in both education and seduction! Rebecca will continue to describe the French heritage and savoir-faire encapsulated in each of the exquisite materials you will use during the workshop.
You will learn how to set-up an embroidery frame, thread a needle with ease, tie knots and of course and three of the basic embroidery stitches. After the workshop is completed you will have access to the pre-recorded online course where your embroidery adventure continues with 13 more stitches (straight, back, stem, couching, blanket, fly, feather, chain, daisy chain, french knots, bullion knots, herringbone, stars, seeding, long and short, satin and diagonal satin stitch). Throughout the online course, Rebecca shares tips and tricks on how to make embroidery an easy, pleasant, and more artistic craft.
Vintage Floral Fancies

Cost: €150 including vintage French printed fabric sourced at the oldest Flea Market in Paris, embroidery materials, a 3 hour workshop taught by Rebecca and light refreshments.
Content: This fascinating class will introduce the technique of embroidery on printed fabrics. It’s a chance to build your confidence with embroidery stitches and colours schemes using gorgeous Soie d’Alger spun silk threads and enjoy working with vintage French chintz and floral fabrics. Rebecca will reveal the enchanting history of Indian printed cottons, how they travelled to France and caused a sensation among the aristocracy and influenced the celebrated Toile de Jouy manufactory.
We will refresh our memories with how to set-up an embroidery frame, thread a needle with ease and tie knots. Next you will enjoy an introduction to colour theory and how to select threads to accentuate, highlight or contrast your vintage printed fabric. You will learn how to plan an embroidery design using your favourite stitches including; straight, back, stem, couching, blanket, fly, feather, chain, daisy chain, french knots, bullion knots, herringbone, stars, seeding, long and short, satin and diagonal satin stitch.

There are two kinds of embroidery courses available, on demand which can be followed at your own leisurely pace or breakneck speed and online courses, which run in the autumn and winter to keep us connected during the colder months. With a warm and encouraging atmosphere, these masterclasses are ideal for both the absolute beginner and the experienced embroiderer in need of some inspiration!
A little note about Rebecca, she initially trained as an Art, Craft and Design teacher with a specialisation in Fine Art Textiles, and received the prestigious Education Award from the National College of Art and Design in Ireland when she graduated in 2006. She completed her Masters in Textile Art and Artefact in 2015 and then pursued her passion for embroidery when she received her qualification as a professional Haute Couture embroiderer from École Lesage in Paris in 2017. After working as an embroiderer for Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and many more of the celebrated Parisian embroidery studios, Rebecca launched Textile Tours of Paris in 2019. She loves sharing her passion for embroidery, art, textiles, beauty and creativity in these online masterclasses and hopes to inspire, motivate and encourage her fabulous students by sharing her knowledge, experience, and most important of all, her joy for embroidery!
