Floral Fancies - Toile du Jouy
This antique Toile du Jouy fabric was printed in the 18th century and is the rarest of Flea Market finds! Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf established a chintz printing factory in Jouy-en-Josas in 1760 and soon after it was given a royal title by none other than King Louis XVI. This Toile du Jouy fabric encapsulates over 250 years of Indian and French textile savoir-faire and I promise you, it is an exquisite joy to hold in your hands!
With all that heritage and history woven through the fabric, it’s a little fragile and there are some stains in places but it is in perfect condition to be embroidered. I have washed and ironed it so it’s ready to embellish. I didn’t have the heart to trim it into an even piece, so the curved side is extra.
Not including the curved side, the fabric measures 30cm x 32cms and comes with 6 skeins of Soie d’Alger spun silk embroidery floss and 1 length of vintage silk embroidery ribbon that measures 3 metres.
